Program Summary & Key Takeaways:
CAPLP is part of a nationwide anti-poverty network of over 1,000 community action agencies and has been in existence for over 60 years. Our service area is primarily Clay & Wilkin Counties in west central MN although some programs and services reach beyond that to the NW region of MN and the entire state of ND. New programs and services have been added over the years in response to identified needs in the community.
CAPLP has four divisions: Head Start, Housing, Child Care Connections, and Economic Empowerment. Over135 staff work to accomplish our mission of eliminating poverty, empowering families, and engaging communities.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe what community action is and its purpose.
- Identify ways Human Resources professionals can partner with CAPLP.
About the Speaker:
Robin Christianson, Economic Empowerment Director, has been with Lakes & Prairies Community Action / CAPLP for 19 years in a variety of roles. In her current role, she is responsible for the oversight of the programs and initiatives of the Economic Empowerment division such as Career Connect (workforce development), financial empowerment programs, Homebuyer Education and Counseling, Whole Family Approach, Refugee Resettlement, the Seniors Program and more. Robin has a bachelor’s degree in Human Development & Family Science and a master’s degree in Gerontology both from North Dakota State University. Robin is a Certified Community Action Professional, a Nationally Certified ROMA Implementer, and a Pathways to Excellence Reviewer.
