Program Summary
The FMCVB, GFMEDC, Chamber, United Way and FM Area Foundation concluded that a shortage of available workers for jobs open in the F-M MSA was becoming a critical problem and could have a negative impact on continued vibrancy and growth in the community.
With financial backing from 16 local businesses, cities and agencies, the agencies funded a comprehensive study of the problem, aimed at presenting actionable items. The study was completed by Mid-June. Now the Steering Committee is moving ahead with plans to enlist other members of the community in attacking four specific areas that could help bring more properly trained workers to the community.
Objectives
- Educate the community about the problem.
-
Enlist people from all sectors to move forward with actions that will help alleviate the shortage.
-
Empower members of the HR community to lend their expertise to this critical problem.
-
Develop innovative ways to bridge the gap between the 6,700+ currently open jobs in the MSA and the workers of varied skills needed to fill them, and the more than 25,000 jobs that will be open over the next 5-10 years.
