Within the last five years, I-9 audits of employers have generated millions in fines and hundreds of criminal investigations.  Simple recording errors, documentation mistakes, and retention violations have resulted in significant fines and penalties against employers.  This session will discuss how employers can resolve complex I-9 completion questions, structure compliance policies, and understand the steps of an ICE conducted I-9 audit.

Learning Objectives:

1  Essential Elements of a properly completed I-9.

2. Avoiding/Correcting mistakes/errors

3. What to do when an Employer learns of inconsistent information or the employee presents documents with a new name?

4.  Anatomy of an I-9 Audit: What documents will be subpoenaed, how does the employer respond, what access is allowed of company records, how will fines be assessed?
