Presentation Summary: 

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 88 children in the US is diagnosed with Autism.  As the diagnosis increases, so does the likelihood of employee an individual with Autism.  This presentation with help gain understanding of Autism and how it effects the brain, cognitive function, communication and social interaction.

About the Speaker:  Ellie Wilson is the Manager of Educational Programs at the Autism Society of Minnesota. As such, she oversees a wide variety of programs that are designed to enrich the lives of individuals with ASD by coupling social skills learning opportunities with interest-based clubs and classes. In her role, Ellie also offers general and specific trainings and workshops to individuals, families, educators, community partners and various civic agencies.

 

Ellie has been working with children with autism for more than ten years in various settings—camps, homes, clinics, schools and organizations. She has extensive experience in designing and implementing adaptable, sensory-conscious programing, suited for young children as well as teenagers and adults on the autism spectrum. She attended the University of Minnesota for her Masters Degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Disability Policy, and was awarded a LEND Fellowship to study autism and interdisciplinary opportunities for community integration. Finally, Ellie has more than five years of leadership experience in the training and supervision of volunteers and employees who provide direct behavioral and sensory support to children with autism in academic and recreational settings.
